Recent ICE Activity

The Newington Republican Town Committee stands united with immigrant communities and supports all individuals seeking a legal pathway to enter, work, study, and/or gain United States citizenship. We also stand united with law enforcement agencies and the jobs they are entrusted to do. Laws are the markings of a civilized society.  We are a nation of laws and as such, we cannot ignore them. The fact is when someone chooses to cross the border illegally, they must accept that there is a risk of getting apprehended. We also support immigration policies that protect our borders, and seek to reduce incidents of human trafficking, drug smuggling, criminal and gang activities that threaten our residents. We do not support the narrative that ICE is conducting an orchestrated community terror campaign.  Rather, due to the high number of undocumented migrants that entered our country under the previous administration ICE workload has been significantly impacted, leading to increasing numbers of arrests and detentions. As the Newington Republican Town Committee, we  support all policies that will increase pathways to citizenship for people who come here for the opportunity for a better life for themselves and their families.
